‘I’ve Been Single for a While’ – Akosua Agyapong Makes Surprise Personal Revelation

For years, questions about Akosua Agyapong’s marital status have continued to surface. Now, the veteran Ghanaian musician and television personality says there should be no confusion about where she stands.

Speaking in an interview with Nayas, Akosua disclosed that she is no longer married and has been single for some time. While she was willing to address her current status, she declined to delve into the details of how her marriage ended or when the separation occurred.

“Honestly speaking, I’m single now, I’ve been single for a while,” she said.

According to the entertainer, this is not the first occasion she has publicly corrected assumptions about her personal life. She noted that she has repeatedly made it clear in previous interviews that she is no longer married.

“It’s on my status that I’m married, and I want to clarify it. I’ve done that on several shows, not just this one. Last time I was on Gifty Anti’s show, and I told her I am single now, I’m no longer married,” she stated.

Akosua also addressed long-running speculation surrounding her past relationship with highlife musician Amandzeba Nat Brew. She stressed that the singer was never her husband and said any connection between that relationship and her marriage was misplaced.

“Amandzeba was in the year 2000. It has nothing to do with my marriage, and I don’t want to talk about it,” she insisted.

The conversation later shifted from her personal experiences to the wider issue of how the public reacts to celebrity relationships and divorces. Akosua argued that fame should not strip individuals of their right to keep certain aspects of their lives private.

In her view, the breakdown of a marriage does not automatically become public property simply because one of the people involved is a public figure. She maintained that celebrities should not feel obligated to recount painful experiences or justify personal decisions before an audience.

“As a musician, your private life has nothing to do with your career. You don’t need to grant interviews detailing everything that caused your marriage to end; the person might be going through worse than yours,” she said.

She further questioned why divorced couples are often expected to explain the circumstances behind their separation, insisting that such matters are best left to those directly involved.

Akosua added that not every failed marriage has a clear villain. In many cases, she said, relationships end because they no longer work for one or both parties.

“If it is a problem, pack your goods and go your way. If marriage doesn’t work, it’s no one’s fault,” the Ghanaian singer stressed.
