Wendy Shay Has More Hits and Fans Than Any Female Artiste in Ghana – Bullet Asserts

Bullet and Wendy Shay

RuffTown Records boss Ricky Nana Agyemang, popularly known as Bullet, has come out firmly in support of singer Wendy Shay, insisting that no female musician in Ghana currently rivals her in both hit songs and the size of her fanbase.

Speaking in an interview with Nana Romeo on UTV’s ‘Atuu’, the music executive argued that despite Wendy Shay’s achievements since breaking into the industry, parts of the Ghanaian media have deliberately downplayed her progress.

Bullet suggested that the reaction is partly rooted in the scepticism that surrounded the singer when she first entered the music scene. According to him, a number of critics and media commentators initially dismissed her chances of making a lasting impact.

He noted that those predictions have since been proven wrong. Over the years, Wendy Shay has built a loyal following and released several popular songs, yet, in his view, some observers remain unwilling to recognise what she has accomplished.

As evidence of her growth, Bullet highlighted the singer’s ability to organise and headline her own concert. He recalled that in 2025 Wendy Shay successfully staged a concert in Kasoa, an accomplishment he believes deserved far more media attention, especially given the obstacles female artistes often encounter in the industry.

For Bullet, the numbers and audience response speak for themselves. He maintained that Wendy Shay currently leads the pack among female artistes in Ghana when it comes to chart success and fan support.

“Today, there is no female artiste in Ghana with more hit songs or a stronger fanbase than Wendy Shay, but some sections of the media refuse to acknowledge it, partly because she is my artiste and partly because many people once said she would never succeed,” he said.

The RuffTown boss also reflected on how his professional relationship with the singer began. He revealed that entertainment industry executive Kwesi Ernest played a key role by introducing Wendy Shay to him.

At the time, Bullet said he had been in talks with several other artistes. However, after meeting Wendy Shay, he quickly concluded that she had the mindset required to thrive in the competitive music business.

What struck him most, he explained, was her decision to walk away from a stable career in healthcare in order to pursue music.

“Kwesi Ernest introduced her to me. At the time I was already speaking with other artistes, but when I took a closer look, I realised Wendy was the one. Here was someone who was a nurse but had decided to leave that profession behind to come and hustle in music. That alone told me she was fearless and determined. I knew she was tough enough to face whatever challenges might come her way, so I dropped all the other artistes and chose to begin the journey with her,” Bullet further stated.
