“I Don’t Need to Travel Out of Ghana to Be an International Artiste” – Shatta Wale

Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has pushed back against critics who question his standing on the international stage. He insists his global impact has long been established without chasing recognition abroad.

In an interview on Asempa FM, Shatta challenged the idea that an artist must travel overseas to be considered internationally relevant. He pointed out that he had already hit major milestones, performing on stages worldwide well before social media and blogs became the standard markers of fame.

“I want to educate the general public about what an international show is. It is not by leaving the shores of Ghana for America that makes you international. If I show you my DM and the people I talk to, I am already in that international space,” he said.

Shatta Wale also highlighted his collaboration with global superstar Beyoncé as evidence of his global relevance.

“I didn’t go to America to stay there for years before Beyoncé contacted me. Vybes Kartel and I have a very good relationship. When I post, international artistes like DJ Khaled and others react to it. I don’t need to travel out of Ghana to be an international artiste.

“I have to work from home for my products to speak for themselves,” the ‘Freedom’ composer stated.
