Former Black Queens player Doreen Angelina Awuah has been recognised in Sunyani with a special honour celebrating both her football career and her continued impact off the pitch.
The award was presented by the Center for Peace and Progress Advocacy Ghana (CePPAG), a non-governmental organisation, during a ceremony held in the Bono Region capital on March 27, 2026.
In its citation, the organisation praised Awuah for her “exceptional achievements and contributions to sports,” highlighting her time with Ghana’s senior women’s national team, the Black Queens. It commended her discipline, commitment and excellence, noting that her efforts brought pride to the country and served as motivation for many aspiring athletes.
Beyond her playing days, the citation also acknowledged her growing influence in youth development and sports mentorship, particularly within the Bono Region. According to CePPAG, her ongoing work has contributed to nurturing young talent and promoting the growth of sports locally and beyond.
“Your legacy remains a symbol of perseverance and national pride,” the citation read, as it congratulated her on what it described as inspiring achievements.
The honour was signed by the Executive Director of CePPAG, Michael Gyasi-Mensah.
Reacting after receiving the recognition, Awuah expressed appreciation, describing the moment as deeply meaningful.
“This is the first of it’s kind to be recognized by any individual or an organization in the region. I am really humbled,” she told Firstnewsroom.com.
The recognition adds to Awuah’s growing profile as not only a former national team player but also a figure committed to shaping the next generation of athletes in Ghana.
