“This Is Insane”: Sarkodie Condemns Xenophobic Violence in South Africa

Sarkodie

Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has joined growing calls for an end to the xenophobic violence in South Africa, saying he is heartbroken by the developments after reports emerged that a Ghanaian businessman had been killed during the unrest.

The award-winning musician shared his reaction in a post on X, where he admitted the violence had left him shaken, particularly because South Africa remains one of the countries he holds in high regard.

“Disappointed in one of my favorite places in the world, SA. I know not everyone out there is involved in this, but this is insane and makes no sense!” he wrote.

While acknowledging that the actions of a few should not define an entire nation, Sarkodie appealed to South Africans to do more in speaking out against the attacks targeting foreign nationals.

“I wish my South African brothers and sisters would speak up against this more strongly because it’s getting out of hand,” he added.

He concluded his message with a prayer for those affected by the violence across the country.

“God help our African brothers and sisters out there,” Sarkodie stated.

Sarkodie’s remarks come as tensions continue to rise in South Africa following demonstrations organised by the anti-migrant group March and March, which issued a June 30 ultimatum demanding that undocumented foreign nationals leave the country.

The protests have sparked widespread concern and condemnation from human rights organisations and international observers. Reports alleging that a Ghanaian businessman was shot dead during the unrest have heightened anxiety within Ghana’s diaspora, although South African authorities have challenged those claims.
