“It Has Not Been Attractive” – Kelvyn Boy on Why He Stopped Going to Church

Kelvyn Boy

Ghanaian Afrobeats artiste Kelvyn Boy has opened up about stepping back from church life, pointing to his experiences with both pastors and members as the turning point.

Speaking in an interview with George Quaye on Joy Prime, he was asked if he still attends the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

He replied, “It’s been a long while. Recently, the church has not been attractive to me,” he said.

Kelvyn Boy stressed that his decision was not rooted in doctrine or belief, but in what he has observed from people within the church environment over time.

“The people who even go to church, the way most of them behave, how they react to things, the way they treat people, I feel like ‘no,'” he said.

When asked whether his concerns were directed more at church leaders or congregants, he explained that both sides influenced his stance.

On pastors, he expressed disappointment, saying he struggles to see what he considers genuine spiritual leadership or meaningful support for people in need.

“For the pastors, you can’t even see the good ones. I feel like pastors should share what they get and support people. I don’t see that,” he said.

He also criticised behaviour among church members, highlighting what he sees as inconsistency, judgment, and social class distinctions.

“For the churchgoers, the kind of things they engage in before and after church just puts me off. And most of them judge you by your appearance. They practise some sort of hierarchy and determine who sits at the front or at the back. All of that just puts me off,” Kelvyn Boy stressed.
