Black Sherif Reveals Why “Iron Boy” Album of the Year Would Be His Biggest Win at 2026 TGMA

Black Sherif has set his sights on one specific honour at this year’s Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), saying that despite earning nine nominations, his deepest desire is to win Album of the Year for his project Iron Boy.

The award-winning Ghanaian artiste, popularly known as Blacko, made this known during an appearance on Onua Showtime, where he opened up about the long and demanding journey behind the album’s creation.

He described Iron Boy as a project that stretched him beyond expectation, noting that it demanded years of discipline, planning, and personal sacrifice before it finally came to life.

“My whole career life, Iron Boy is the project that really took a lot from me. I started work on Iron Boy in 2022, a month after my debut album. It took us three years. Some of the videos for the album were shot a year before the songs came out,” he explained.

Black Sherif revealed that the groundwork for the album began in 2022, shortly after the release of his debut body of work. Even in the early stages, he was already deep into preparation, laying the foundation for what would eventually become Iron Boy.

He further explained that the rollout was carefully staged long before the official release, with activations and creative planning already in motion.

“We started activating Iron Boy late January 2025 from South Africa, then February we were in Tanzania, March we were in London and USA then the next month we dropped the album and we went on tour,” he stated.

According to him, once the project was released, he immediately shifted into tour mode, performing across major international stages, including Europe and the United States, beginning the very night the album dropped.

Reflecting on the journey, Black Sherif said seeing the project come together after years of effort has given him a deep sense of fulfilment and renewed appreciation for patience and structure.

“All of that coming together has brought me some kind of fulfillment to see that something I planned in my head could actually come together successfully after three years. Everything else I’ve done since then has been thanks and gratitude. God has made me know how it feels to be successful,” Blacko said.
