Ghana Records Six New Mpox Cases as Total Infections Reach 1,070

Ghana Health Service on Mpox

Six new Mpox infections have been confirmed in Ghana, pushing the country’s cumulative case count to 1,070 as of May 10, 2026, according to the Ghana Health Service (GHS).

The latest update points to a slower pace of transmission compared to earlier stages of the outbreak, with only six additional infections recorded over nearly three months.

Before this announcement, the most recent Mpox update from health authorities was issued on February 16, 2026, when 12 fresh cases were reported.

Mpox, a viral disease spread largely through close physical contact with an infected person, continues to be monitored by health officials despite the decline in new infections.

Authorities say intensified surveillance, public awareness campaigns, and preventive interventions have helped contain the spread. Even so, sporadic cases are still being detected, prompting renewed calls for the public to remain alert.

Common symptoms associated with Mpox include fever, rash, headaches, muscle pain, swollen lymph nodes, chills, and fatigue.

The Ghana Health Service has encouraged the public to observe proper hygiene practices and seek medical attention immediately after noticing symptoms.

“If you notice any of these, visit the nearest health facility immediately,” the Service stated.

Health officials say they are closely tracking developments and have advised the public to stay calm while continuing to follow recommended safety measures.
