“Gift Giving Is Neither A One-Way Street Nor An Entitlement” – Nana Aba Anamoah States

Ghanaian media personality Nana Aba Anamoah has set off a fresh debate online after challenging a mindset she says encourages entitlement in relationships without mutual effort.

The discussion initially gained traction on X after a user criticised men who put minimal effort into celebrating their partners’ birthdays. Nana Aba responded by shifting the focus, insisting that women should also be intentional about how they show appreciation to their partners.

Her remarks drew pushback from another user who claimed reciprocity was not part of “female nature.” She firmly disagreed.

“It’s not my nature. I give my man proper, meaningful and sensible gifts. You should try that too. Gift giving is neither a one-way street nor an entitlement.

“Don’t expect champagne treatment when all you offer is ‘a king was born today’, singlets and boxers,” she fired back.

Beyond the back-and-forth, the veteran broadcaster also stressed that expressions of love should not be reserved for birthdays or special dates, but maintained consistently as part of everyday relationship habits rather than calendar-driven gestures.

The exchange has since triggered wide reactions online, with some praising her straightforward take on reciprocity in relationships, while others argue her comments unfairly generalise women’s roles and expectations in romantic partnerships.
