Tito Jackson, Jackson 5 member, dies at 70
Tito Jackson, a member of the legendary Jackson 5, has passed on at the age of 70.
His death was confirmed by his sons, Taj, Taryll, and TJ Jackson, in an Instagram tribute early Monday morning.
“We are shocked, saddened, and heartbroken. Our father was an incredible man who cared deeply about everyone and their well-being,” they wrote in a post featuring photos of Tito, his sons, and the Jackson 5, shared in collaboration with Tito’s official Instagram account.
“It will forever be ‘Tito Time’ for us,” they continued. “Please remember to do what our father always preached: ‘Love One Another.’ We love you, Pops.”
The news about his demise was first reported by ET, with longtime family friend and former Jackson family manager Steve Manning confirming that Tito passed away on Sunday.
Alongside his siblings Jackie, Jermaine, Marlon, and Michael, Tito rose to fame as part of the Motown sensation Jackson 5. The group scored four consecutive No. 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100: “I Want You Back,” “ABC,” “The Love You Save,” and “I’ll Be There,” becoming a cornerstone of what was known as “Jacksonmania.” Together, they captured the hearts of America under the strict management of their father, Joe Jackson.
In 1997, Tito was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Jackson 5. Throughout his career, the group earned three Grammy nominations for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group and Best Contemporary Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group. The Jackson 5 released 16 studio albums—10 as the Jackson 5 and six as The Jacksons—achieving immense success as a group and individually. They became a cultural sensation, especially in Black households across the country.
Tito also pursued a solo career, releasing the album Tito Time in 2016 and Under Your Spell in 2021. As recently as last year, he collaborated with Brazilian singer Natalia Damini on the song “Attitude” and its accompanying music video.
