“I need my money back” – Michael Blackson accuses Ghana of stealing his investment
American-Ghanaian comedian Michael Blackson has accused the Ghanaian government of mishandling his investment. On Tuesday, September 17, 2024, Blackson expressed his frustrations in multiple posts on X (formerly Twitter), claiming that Ghana has “stolen” the money he invested.
According to Blackson, he and others are victims of what he described as a form of “robbery.” He explained that the funds he invested were intended to support the continued operation of his free school for underprivileged children in Ghana. However, due to the financial situation, he now fears he may have to seek donations to keep the school running.
“Ghana 🇬🇭 stole the money I invested to keep my free school going, so now I might have to do a GoFundMe,” he wrote.
In another post, Blackson added, “Ghana 🇬🇭 robbed me and many others who trusted them enough to invest in the country.”
Further detailing his predicament, the comedian explained that he had purchased euro bonds, which initially paid a 10% interest—enough to fund the school. However, he claimed that the Ghanaian government diverted the money to pay off its national debt. Nearly three years later, he said, the government informed him that they could only pay 1.95% interest and would withhold his funds for 15 years.
In his final post, Blackson reiterated his demand for his money, writing, “Whoever the finance minister of Ghana 🇬🇭 is, you need to call me. The money I was using to keep this school going—you have kidnapped it. I need my money back.”
In 2023, Michael Blackson was widely praised for commissioning the Michael Blackson Academy in his hometown, Agona Nsaba, located in the Central Region of Ghana.
