Ghanaian female rapper, Eno Barony says awards don’t define an artiste’s success

After clinching the Best Rap Performance award at the prestigious Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) in 2021, Ghanaian female rapper, Eno Barony firmly believes that accolades shouldn’t be the sole measure of an artiste’s success.

While acknowledging the importance of awards, the self-proclaimed Rap Goddess argues that true success lies in the impact and resonance of an artiste’s work.

“There are many talented and hardworking artistes who haven’t won awards, yet their music has transformed lives, sparked meaningful conversations, and brought people together,” she shared in an interview with Graphic Showbiz on Thursday, January 9. “That, to me, is the true essence of success.”

Known for her exceptional talent and vibrant presence in the male-dominated rap scene, Eno Barony has earned numerous award nominations and a few wins, including her historic TGMA Best Rap Performance win in 2021 and a similar accolade at the 3Music Awards that same year.

However, her focus remains steadfast on crafting music that resonates with her audience.

“Sometimes, artistes aren’t recognised enough for their contributions. It’s as though, without an award, you lack talent. That’s why I advocate for a more inclusive approach to celebrating all efforts in the industry,” she said.

Eno Barony, born Ruth Nyame Adom, is currently celebrating the success of her latest album, No Manual. Released on January 1, 2025, the album has already surpassed 6 million streams on Audiomack.

“My fans love tracks like Soja Go Soja Come featuring King Paluta, Calabash with Fuse ODG, and Street Love featuring Jay Bahd. The love and support have been incredible,” she said, expressing gratitude to the producers and collaborators who contributed to the project.

The album showcases Eno’s versatility through collaborations with prominent artistes, including King Paluta, Fuse ODG, Jay Bahd, and Amerado. “Working with these amazing artistes allowed me to explore diverse musical stories and add fresh flavors to the album,” she added.

Eno Barony first rose to prominence in 2014 with her breakout hit Tonga, which gained significant airplay. A year later, she collaborated with Abrewa Nana on Megye Wo Boy, further solidifying her place in the music scene.

Reflecting on her journey, Eno highlights her achievements in 2024 as major milestones, including the release of No Manual and the successful hosting of the second edition of her annual Eid Concert in Koforidua.

“I’m proud of how far I’ve come and even more excited about the future,” she said, reaffirming her commitment to creating impactful music that resonates with her fans and beyond.
