I Begged for Clothes to Go to Church – ACP Kofi Sarpong Reflects on His Struggle Before Fame

ACP Kofi Sarpong

Before his name became widely known in gospel music circles, ACP Kofi Sarpong says his dedication to church life came at a personal cost that few people ever noticed.

The Ghanaian gospel musician has recounted how financial hardship marked his early years of service in church, even as he remained deeply committed to its activities. In an interview on Neat FM on January 16, 2026, Sarpong revealed that his devotion often outpaced his means, leaving him at times without decent clothing to wear to church.

He explained that he was fully immersed in church work, taking part in nearly every activity despite struggling to meet basic needs. According to him, his passion for serving God never wavered, even when his circumstances were dire.

“I put my all into my church and I was involved in everything they do in church. Sometimes, getting clothes for church was difficult for me. I used to beg for clothes and wear to church,” he said.

Sarpong recalled that maintaining a presentable appearance for services sometimes depended entirely on the kindness of others. One particular friend, he noted, played a quiet but crucial role during that period.

“One of my friends would pack his clothes to wash, then I go and select what to wear to church,” he stated.

Despite these challenges, the gospel singer said he made a conscious decision not to let his struggles show. Many around him, he explained, had no idea what he was dealing with behind the scenes.

“Despite the struggles, no one knew what I was going through. I would sing and dance in church as if I had no worries. That’s what showed that I was genuinely worshipping God,” he explained.

Looking back, Sarpong said poverty never became an excuse for him to withdraw or reduce his commitment to worship. Instead, the experience strengthened his perspective on faith and gratitude.

“I didn’t look at my situation at that time to make excuses for worshipping God the right way. Those who were born into riches should thank God it’s not easy to be poor,” Kofi Sarpong further stated.
