Michael Blackson announces that he is now an NDC member
Michael Blackson has officially announced his membership with Ghana’s National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The Ghanaian-American comedian made this declaration after the John Dramani Mahama-led government confirmed the disbursement of GH¢6.081 billion in Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) coupons.
The payment, Blackson noted, would significantly benefit the children attending his tuition-free Michael Blackson Academy in Agona Nsaba.
Expressing his gratitude on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote: “Look at God, this is a very great start for all bondholders. As of today, I’m officially a member of the NDC party. Mahama, you just put a smile on the faces of the kids at my free school.”
This development follows Blackson’s earlier frustrations over being unable to access his investments in Eurobonds.
In September 2024, he voiced his disappointment, revealing that he had invested in the bonds to support his school but felt betrayed by the previous Nana Akufo-Addo administration.
“Who’s the minister of finance in Ghana? I have beef with this guy. People of the diaspora decided to invest in our continent, and they used our money to pay their debt,” he lamented.
Blackson criticized the government’s proposed bond restructuring options, calling it a setback for diaspora investors and expressing his disappointment with the country’s financial management.
