Nana Agradaa Jailed 15 Years for Money-Doubling Scam That Rocked Ghana

Patricia Asiedua, better known in Ghana as Nana Agradaa, will spend the next 15 years behind bars with hard labour after being convicted in a high-profile church scam that promised worshippers miraculous financial rewards.

The former fetish priestess, who famously reinvented herself as an evangelist, was handed her sentence on Thursday, July 3, 2025, by the Accra Circuit Court. Justice Evelyn Asamoah, who oversaw the trial, found her guilty of “charlatanic advertisement” and “defrauding by false pretences.”

The charges stemmed from a 2022 incident at her Heaven Way Church in Weija. In a video that went viral, Agradaa was seen telling attendees of an all-night service that she would double any money they offered, a claim that drew dozens to the event hoping for instant blessings.

In a surprising twist during the court proceedings, Justice Asamoah requested a pregnancy test be conducted before sentencing could proceed. Following the test, Agradaa was sentenced to 15 years in prison with hard labour.

Her downfall began nearly three years earlier on October 9, 2022, when she was arrested by police amid mounting accusations of fraud. Just two days prior, on October 7, she had hosted the service where the controversial promises were made.

In the aftermath, the Ghana Police Service issued a public statement:

“The police have arrested Patricia Asiedua, alias Nana Agradaa, following allegations of a money-doubling scam levelled against her by some members of the public. The suspect is currently assisting with police investigations.”

Soon after, social media was flooded with stories from disappointed congregants. Many claimed they had handed over their money to Agradaa only to be ordered out of the church with nothing in return. Their testimonies fueled widespread outrage and prompted swift legal action.

As the case gained national attention, authorities urged others who had been affected by the scheme to report to the Accra Regional Police Command to aid the investigation.
