MultiChoice Ghana Denies Agreement to Cut DStv Prices After Sam George’s Claim

Multichoice Ghana

MultiChoice Ghana has publicly pushed back against claims that it has already agreed to slash DStv subscription fees in Ghana, countering remarks made by Communications Minister Samuel Nartey George at a press briefing.

In a statement released on Friday, September 5, just hours after the minister’s announcement, MultiChoice clarified that discussions with the government are ongoing and no final decision has been made on price cuts.

“We will fully participate in the established Working Committee. However, we wish to clarify that MultiChoice Group has not agreed to a price reduction,” the company stressed, underscoring its willingness to keep talking but disputing any suggestion of a concluded deal.

Earlier that day, Minister George had told reporters that MultiChoice had “finally accepted that there will be a reduction,” noting the company had asked for a 30-day window for the committee to decide the extent of the cut. He added, “I believe, as Minister, that we do not need 30 days. Fourteen days is enough for us to reach this decision, inclusive of weekends.”

The newly formed committee, chaired by the minister, brings together representatives from the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, the National Communications Authority, MultiChoice Ghana, and MultiChoice Africa to review pricing concerns collaboratively.
