Ghana’s national team has a new man at the helm, with the Football Association turning to a seasoned hand ahead of the global showpiece.
The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association, in consultation with key stakeholders, has named Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the Black Stars, placing him in charge of the team’s push toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup set to be staged across Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
Queiroz arrives with a résumé built on World Cup campaigns. He steered South Africa to the 2002 tournament, took Portugal into the knockout rounds in 2010, and later managed Iran at both the 2014 and 2018 editions.
His managerial journey has also stretched across Egypt, Oman, Japan, and Qatar, adding further depth to a career that now shifts focus to Ghana’s ambitions on the world stage.
He is expected to get straight to work, with preparations already underway for the tournament, which begins on June 11, 2026.
Ghana will open its group stage against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, before taking on England and Croatia in the remaining fixtures.
