Black Sherif Reveals the Toughest Song on Iron Boy Took Him Three Days to Finish

Black Sherif, two-time Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) Artiste of the Year winner, has shed light on how some of the records on his Iron Boy album came together, highlighting the stark differences in how long each song took to complete.

In a recent interview on 3FM, the “Kwaku The Traveller” hitmaker broke down both the most demanding and the most effortless moments of the project’s recording process.

He pointed to Changes as the toughest song he worked on, saying the track pushed him creatively in ways none of his previous records had. According to him, it took three full days just to complete the vocals.

“Changes. It took three days to take the vocals; I think it was the register. I was hearing how it was supposed to sound, and I didn’t want to do just anything. No song has ever taken three days,” he shared during the interview, adding that the emotional depth and creative demands of the song made it particularly difficult for him.

Black Sherif explained that his usual workflow is much faster, noting that a typical song takes him around 12 hours to write and record, including breaks. Over time, that process has stretched slightly due to pauses in between studio sessions.

He contrasted that experience with Sacrifice, which he described as the easiest track on the album to complete.

“The average time to create a song is about 12 hours; earlier, we could hit the studio and be done in three hours, but now it takes 12 hours because we’ll go on break and come back to continue,” he elaborated.

Unlike Changes, Sacrifice came together quickly. He revealed that the songwriting took less than an hour, while the full recording session wrapped up in roughly three hours.

“I wrote Sacrifice in under an hour; I was in Lagos. I came back to Ghana and retook the whole vocals again, and that was that,” he said.
