Ghanaian music star Black Sherif has been reflecting on his early years, saying that if he could turn back time, he would have embraced childhood with far more play and freedom.
He recalled that while growing up, people around him often described him as someone who enjoyed “walking about” too much, a habit that stood out in his younger days.
Now a globally recognised artiste constantly under public attention, he believes that phase of his life did not come with the level of enjoyment he would appreciate in hindsight. Fame, he says, has changed the way he experiences everyday life.
According to him, being in the spotlight has stripped away the ease of moving around unnoticed or enjoying spontaneous moments without interruption. Cameras and fans now follow him almost everywhere, leaving little room for the kind of carefree wandering he once took for granted.
“I feel like I would intensify my playing. Yeah, I would play more, like walk. They used to tell me I roam a lot, but I feel like I didn’t roam enough. I would play more, be very bubbly because now I cannot,” he said.
The “Kwaku The Traveller” hitmaker added that given another chance at childhood, he would prioritise being more expressive, playful, and lighthearted, fully leaning into the simple joys he now feels are harder to access.
