Four Teachers Convicted Over BECE Malpractice in Twifo Praso, Fined GH¢3,000 Each

Four teachers have been convicted and fined after admitting to involvement in examination malpractice and related irregularities during the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Twifo Praso area of the Central Region.

The Twifo Praso District Magistrate Court, presided over by Cephas Atidzoe, heard that the accused persons accepted responsibility when they were arraigned. Each was subsequently fined GH¢3,000, with the court ordering that failure to pay would result in a one-year prison sentence.

The convicted individuals are David Kwabena Mensah, Ruth Ampah, Millicent Marfo, and Kennedy Anokye. According to the prosecution, they were implicated in separate incidents of examination misconduct across different centres within the district, according to a report.

Chief Inspector Joseph Kusah told the court that the offences varied in nature but all breached examination regulations and the laws governing the conduct and security of BECE administration.

David Kwabena Mensah was found to have unlawfully circulated examination content after photographing sections of a paper with his mobile phone and sharing the material through WhatsApp, an act that violated rules on the confidentiality and handling of examination papers under the West African Examinations Council Act, 2006.

Ruth Ampah was convicted for assisting candidates during the examination process by verbally supplying answers while the test was ongoing, conduct prosecutors described as a serious breach of examination integrity and criminal procedure.

Millicent Marfo and Kennedy Anokye were also found guilty of jointly keeping examination materials without authorisation at the Twifo Praso Senior High School examination centre. The court ruled that their actions amounted to unlawful possession of examination papers and conspiracy to commit an offence.

Two of the convicts were teachers who accompanied candidates to examination centres, while the remaining two were serving as invigilators appointed by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
