Jordan Ayew Calls for Patience as Ghana Begin Rebuild Under Queiroz

Jordan Ayew and Carlos Queiroz during Ghana and Panama World Cup 2026 match

Jordan Ayew has called on Ghanaians to remain patient with Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz, stressing that the Portuguese tactician requires time to properly embed his ideas after Ghana’s early exit from the FIFA World Cup.

Ghana’s campaign came to a painful end following a tight 1-0 loss to Colombia, a result that sealed their elimination. While the outcome fell short of expectations, Ayew said the rebuilding phase under the new manager is still in its infancy and should be viewed with long-term perspective.

“It’s not good because we didn’t qualify,” the Black Stars skipper admitted.

He was quick to add that expectations of an instant turnaround were unrealistic, given Queiroz’s short time in charge.

“Don’t forget we have a new manager. He just came two months ago and is trying to install his style, and now people are adjusting. We don’t just adjust within one month or two months. Football doesn’t work like that. You have to accept it.”

Even in defeat, Ayew pointed to signs of progress, particularly in the team’s defensive structure, which he believes has become more organised under Queiroz’s guidance.

“We came here; we did, you could see that defensively we were better,” he said.

The Leicester City forward noted that the next stage of development must focus on sharpening Ghana’s attacking output while maintaining the improved defensive discipline.

“You know, defensively we were better, but then we fell short a bit offensively. So we have to find the right balance now, you know, and it’s all about work.”

Ayew also voiced confidence in Queiroz’s experience and pedigree, urging supporters to back the coach as he continues shaping the squad for future competitions.

“The manager needs time; he’s a very good manager. You need to give him time for him to do his job and hopefully, hopefully things will be better.”

Ghana’s elimination confirmed a disappointing World Cup run, with the defeat to Colombia ultimately ending their hopes of progressing beyond the group stage.

Still, Ayew’s remarks underline a belief within the squad that adaptation to Queiroz’s system will gradually yield improvements as the team looks ahead to upcoming international fixtures.
