Kumasi Candlelight Vigil for Daddy Lumba Postponed Amid National Mourning

Kumasi candlelight vigil for Daddy Lumba postponed

The Creative Arts Agency has indefinitely postponed the Kumasi candlelight vigil for Highlife icon Charles Kwadwo Fosu, widely known as Daddy Lumba, citing the nation’s period of mourning.

Originally slated for Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Heroes Park in Kumasi, the tribute was set to be the second major memorial event after a successful one in Accra.

In a press statement issued on August 7, 2025, and signed by Mr. Gideon Aryeequaye, the Agency confirmed the change, explaining that the decision follows President John Dramani Mahama’s declaration of three days of national mourning from August 7 to 9.

The solemn directive was made after the August 6 helicopter crash in Adansi, which tragically claimed eight lives, including senior government officials.

The Agency stressed that the somber atmosphere calls for unity, compassion, and respect, making it inappropriate to hold celebratory gatherings during this period.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families and the entire nation during this difficult time,” the statement read.

They assured supporters and fans that a new date for the Kumasi vigil will be announced later.
