Ghanaian singer Mzbel has encouraged women above 40 not to accept the common belief that childbirth becomes impossible at that stage, revealing that she successfully gave birth at 44.
She said she kept her story away from the public for two years before deciding to share it, explaining that her aim is to challenge long-held assumptions about age and fertility. According to her, conception is still possible for women in their 40s.
In a video posted on social media, she also pointed to herbal preparations as part of what she believes can aid conception.
“If someone tells you that once you reach age 40, you can’t give birth, it’s a lie. I gave birth to my daughter at the age of 44. There are a lot of local medicines that can prepare your womb and tubes, making it possible for you to conceive,” she said.
Mzbel further detailed the difficulties she encountered on her path to motherhood, noting that she first went through several expensive medical treatments without success.
She explained that her breakthrough came only after she turned to herbal medicine for about four to five months, which she says led to her pregnancy.
“When I decided to have my daughter, I went through many treatments, which were expensive, but nothing worked until Hajia Fertility gave me her medicine and showed me how to prepare it. I took it for about four to five months, and I conceived,” she disclosed.
After sharing her experience publicly, she added that many people later reached out to her privately, asking how she was able to conceive at that age.
“When I gave birth, a lot of people came into my DMs asking how I was able to conceive at 44. I didn’t respond to most of them, only those close to me,” Mzbel added.
