I Want to Improve the Legacy of Otto Addo – New Black Stars coach Carlos Queiroz

New Black Stars of Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz

Carlos Queiroz has set out his vision for the Black Stars, combining appreciation for the past with a clear push toward long-term improvement. The newly appointed Ghana head coach says his immediate task is to strengthen what already exists while steering the team to a higher competitive standard.

Speaking at his unveiling on Thursday, April 23, 2026, Queiroz took time to acknowledge the groundwork laid by his predecessor, Otto Addo, who successfully guided Ghana to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“I want to improve the legacy of Otto Addo. I thank Otto Addo for qualifying for the World Cup,” he said.

While recognising that achievement, the Portuguese manager made it clear that qualification alone is not the endpoint of his project. He stressed that his focus is on building a more balanced and dependable squad capable of performing consistently against top opposition.

“What we are doing now is to make an honest and integrity approach, to know where we stand in the next games. Based on the conclusions we are going to make, bringing in the right players. We have to be sure to bring in the right players to make a right team. And what we are doing now is to study, analyse anything that is with the team,” Carlos Queiroz further stated.
