Akosua Serwaa, widow of late highlife musician Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has dragged Victor Kofi Owusu, also known as Abusuapanin Tupac, and Alex Kofi Boadi Ampong to court over claims questioning her marriage to the late musician and the authenticity of her German marriage certificate.
The case, filed at the Kumasi High Court and sighted by GhanaWeb, centres on comments the plaintiff says portrayed her marriage certificate as fake and cast doubt on her status as Daddy Lumba’s lawful widow.
Akosua Serwaa is asking the court for several reliefs, including a declaration that the statements were false and defamatory, an order stopping the defendants from repeating the allegations, a public retraction and apology, as well as general and aggravated damages of GH¢3 million.
The plaintiff’s statement of claim traces the controversy to an appearance by Victor Kofi Owusu on UTV’s United Showbiz programme on November 29, 2025.
The programme featured a discussion about Akosua Serwaa, her marriage to Daddy Lumba and the German marriage certificate she relies on as evidence of the marriage.
According to the lawsuit, Kofi Owusu made statements during the programme which suggested that the certificate was not genuine.
Akosua Serwaa disputes that claim and argues that the comments falsely questioned both her marital status and the authenticity of an official German civil-status document.
She also rejects the allegation that the certificate was manufactured, forged or fabricated in Ashanti New Town or anywhere else in Kumasi.
Alex Kofi Boadi Ampong, popularly known as Sir Alex, has been named as the second defendant in the case.
The plaintiff alleges that Ampong presented himself publicly as the Public Relations Officer for Victor Kofi Owusu and communicated in that capacity.
She further claims that the controversy did not end with the November 2025 television appearance.
According to the statement of claim, allegations relating to the same issues were subsequently published on June 8, 2026, and July 5, 2026.
Akosua Serwaa says the publications attacked several aspects of her identity and reputation, particularly the authenticity of her German marriage certificate, the existence of her marriage to Daddy Lumba, her honesty and integrity, and her status as the musician’s lawful widow.
She also argues that the allegations questioned the legitimacy of documents connected to her claims.
The plaintiff maintains that the reach of the publications made the situation more damaging. She points to the United Showbiz appearance as a platform capable of reaching a national audience and says the alleged TikTok publications could be recorded, shared and reposted well beyond Ghana.
She further alleges that the claims have contributed to abuse against her on TikTok and other social media platforms, where the allegations concerning her marriage documents have allegedly been repeated as established facts.
The legal action also touches on Akosua Serwaa’s professional life in Germany, where she works as a nurse.
She argues that accusations suggesting she forged or fabricated an official German marriage certificate could seriously affect perceptions of her honesty, integrity, responsibility and trustworthiness.
The plaintiff says the alleged statements have also caused personal and social harm by creating doubts about whether she was genuinely married to Daddy Lumba and, by extension, whether she is legally recognised as his widow.
According to her case, the controversy goes beyond personal attacks because her status as Daddy Lumba’s widow has implications for matters concerning the late musician’s estate and family affairs.
Akosua Serwaa is asking the Kumasi High Court to declare the statements complained of false and defamatory.
She is also seeking a perpetual injunction preventing the defendants, their agents, representatives or anyone acting on their instructions from publishing, repeating or circulating claims that her German marriage certificate is fake, forged or fabricated.
The proposed order would also stop the defendants from repeating claims that the certificate was manufactured or fabricated in Ashanti New Town, Kumasi, or that Akosua Serwaa was never lawfully married to Daddy Lumba.
She wants the defendants to retract the alleged defamatory statements and issue an unqualified public apology.
For Victor Kofi Owusu, the plaintiff is seeking an order requiring the retraction and apology to be carried on UTV and other television, online and social media platforms where the allegations were allegedly published or republished, subject to the court’s directions.
In the case of Alex Kofi Boadi Ampong, she wants the retraction and apology published on TikTok and any other social media platform through which he allegedly published or repeated the claims, in terms approved by the court.
Akosua Serwaa is also seeking general and aggravated damages of GH¢3 million for defamation, or another amount the court considers appropriate.
