Three Women Receive Support From WAN-Hive Ghana

The WAN-Hive Ghana through its maiden Women Innovation Challenge Initiative is supporting three women-led start-ups to establish their business ventures.

The ultimate winner of the Women Innovation Challenge 2021 was Augusta Akyina Agyemang, founder of Sucex Fruit Juice, followed by Mary Adade, founder of Marilyn Beads, Fatimata Abubakari the founder of Deep Clean Services placed third.

The Women Innovation Challenge an initiative of WAN-Hive Ghana is to encourage young women to apply and use the knowledge acquired and skills to solve problems through entrepreneurship as a solution to unemployment.

The initiative is also to help address unique difficulties women face when starting their business to help create jobs and contribute to the economic empowerment of women.

The Founder and CEO of WAN-Hive Ghana, Ms. Janat Issifu speaking at the award ceremony of the Women Innovation Challenge held in Sunyani reiterated the reason behind the initiative, “This is to encourage and support young women in establishing innovative start-ups to solve social problems, create jobs and reduce the unemployment rate among young women. We received over 210 business applications from young women across the country.”

Ms Issifu noted that the10 finalists finalize on 10 received training in Financial Management, Business Model Canvas, Basic Book Keeping and Social Media Management.

She assured the winners of the organization’s commitment and support to ensure the establishment and sustainability of their start-ups.

Ms Issifu stated that the three start-ups will be taken through an Acceleration program where they will receive free mentorship, tailored business development support, access to market and free business advisory services.

She called on public and private organizations, and individuals to come on board to support the initiative to create sustainable jobs for women and reduce unemployment.

The competition was supported by the Bono Region Ministry for Gender, Children and Social Protection, the National Youth Authority in Bono Region, the Sunyani West Municipal Assembly, Yedent Agro Food Processing Company Ltd, Beksfel Constructions Limited, Groupe Ania, Golden Pillars Foundation, Fiapre Youth Association and other astute individuals.
