Two of the eight people who perished in last week’s military helicopter crash in Adansi Akrofuom, Ashanti Region, will be laid to rest on Sunday, August 10, in accordance with Islamic burial rites that require swift interment.

The funeral arrangements, announced by the official planning committee, are for Dr Ibrahim Mohammed Murtala, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, and Alhaji Muniru Limuna Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, both of whom were Muslim.

“The President of the Republic of Ghana, the Vice President, Speaker of Parliament, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Yogbun Wura and Ndan Ya Naa, the National Chief Imam and Leader of the Ambariya Sunni Group, alongside the families of the deceased, announce the burial rites in accordance with Islamic tradition, customs, and practices,” the committee stated.

According to the program, Jannaza prayers will take place at 2:00 p.m. at the Forecourt of the State House in Accra, after which the bodies will be taken to the Military Cemetery for burial at 2:30 p.m. The government and the bereaved families are inviting the public to join in the prayers and final rites to pay tribute to the late officials.

Chief of Staff Julius Debrah had earlier confirmed that the August 6 crash claimed the lives of Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Dr Murtala Mohammed, former Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Samuel Sarpong, Alhaji Muniru Limuna Mohammed, and former MP and NDC National Vice Chairman Samuel Aboagye.

Also among the casualties were three members of the Ghana Armed Forces, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Mane-Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
