Ghanaian dancehall artiste Samini has called for renewed leadership at the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO), saying the body can only reach its full potential if guided by competent and visionary minds.
Speaking on Hitz FM, the award-winning artiste commended GHAMRO’s current administrators for their ongoing efforts but noted that the institution still has major hurdles to overcome in managing musicians’ rights effectively.
“I like when young people are given the chance to take offices like that. So, GHAMRO is a special place that needs the right heads to actually manage it. Those who are there are doing their best, but we still have a long way to go,” he said.
When asked whether he would ever consider taking up a leadership role at GHAMRO or the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Samini said he would not dismiss the idea entirely.
“You never say never, you know. While we grow, we develop ourselves to make ourselves fit for call ups as and when. So, if the time comes and I’m called and I think I’m available, we’ll see. Because any opportunity to help shape our industry is a blessing unto whoever is called,” he stated.
Samini emphasized that Ghana’s creative sector needs leaders who combine passion, integrity, and professionalism, adding that such leadership would restore confidence and direction within the nation’s music institutions.
