The High Court in Accra has stepped in to halt further public attacks on broadcast journalist Solomon David Aboagye, known professionally as Kwasi Aboagye, after granting an injunction against media personality Valentina Nana Agyeiwaa, popularly called Afia Schwarzenegger, and musician Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr, known as Shatta Wale.
The order bars the two defendants from publishing or repeating any additional defamatory statements about Kwasi Aboagye. The ruling came after the court accepted submissions from the plaintiff’s legal team and entered a default judgment, following the defendants’ failure to respond to the suit despite being properly served.
Kwasi Aboagye initiated the legal action in response to comments allegedly made during a TikTok live broadcast on May 6, 2024. During that session, Shatta Wale and Afia Schwarzenegger were accused of making statements that the plaintiff says damaged his reputation. The remarks were later circulated widely on social media, drawing sharp reactions from the public.
According to the claim, the statements portrayed Kwasi Aboagye as engaging in criminal conduct and made personal allegations about his private life. His lawyers argue that the circulation of those claims amplified the harm beyond the initial broadcast.
Represented by Samson Lardy Anyenini, the plaintiff filed a Writ of Summons and Statement of Claim in late 2024. The suit seeks several remedies, including formal declarations, injunctive relief, public retractions and apologies, as well as damages amounting to GH¢8 million.
Court records indicate that the defendants declined to retract or apologise after a formal demand was issued. Instead, they challenged the Peace FM entertainment show host to pursue the matter in court. After multiple attempts to serve them failed, the court approved substituted service in October 2024, which was carried out in line with its directions.
Despite this, neither defendant entered an appearance or filed a defence. That failure cleared the way for the plaintiff’s application for default judgment.
On October 15, 2025, the court granted Relief 6 of the claims, issuing a perpetual injunction that restrains Shatta Wale and Afia Schwarzenegger from making further defamatory publications about Kwasi Aboagye.
With liability now established, the case proceeds to the damages stage. At that phase, the plaintiff is expected to present evidence to support his claim for compensation arising from the alleged injury to his reputation.
