“The Current Crop of Ghanaian Artistes Don’t Dress Properly” – Papi of 5Five Fame Asserts

Papi of 5five fame

Papi of 5Five fame has taken a swipe at the fashion sense of today’s Ghanaian musicians, arguing that many of them miss the mark when it comes to personal style.

“None of the current crop of Ghanaian artistes know how to dress,” said Papi of 5Five fame when asked to name artistes who are fashionably dressed in the Ghana music industry.

During an appearance on Okay FM on March 26, 2026, he did not hold back, insisting that a number of artistes fail to dress appropriately. In contrast, he pointed to Shatta Wale as one of the few who understands how to present himself, expressing frustration over the way the Dancehall star is often criticised for his fashion choices.

Papi maintained that a lot of the newer artistes rely too heavily on trends they pick up online, instead of selecting outfits that complement their individual look and identity. In his view, this lack of originality is part of the problem.

Drawing a comparison, he said Shatta Wale’s style reflects the Dancehall culture he represents, making it consistent with his brand and musical space.

He also suggested that public perception of Shatta Wale’s fashion is shaped by bias, with critics quick to dismiss his style regardless of context.

Papi went further to address claims about the artiste’s jewellery, dismissing suggestions that his chains are made from aluminium instead of genuine VVS diamonds. According to him, such remarks come from people who have had limited exposure to luxury and therefore struggle to recognise authenticity when they see it.

“The current crop of Ghanaian artistes don’t dress properly. That’s why I get upset when people criticise Shatta, because many of them don’t even know how to dress themselves. They just copy what they see online instead of wearing what actually suits them,” he said.

“Shatta is a Dancehall artiste, and if you pay attention to that space, there’s a distinct style that comes with it, which he represents. But because there’s so much hatred in Ghana, people choose to see things differently,” Papi stated.
