How to Apply for GES Recruitment: Step-by-Step Guide for Teachers

Ghana Education Service

The Ghana Education Service has rolled out a dedicated online platform to handle teacher recruitment, replacing the long, manual process with a single digital entry point for applicants across the country.

Accessible via its official portal (https://gesrecruitment.gedp.tech), the system brings together applications from three groups of trained educators: university graduates, College of Education graduates, and diploma holders. Recruitment is tied to government clearance and existing vacancies, with placements guided by subject area, regional choices, and staffing gaps within the service.

Who qualifies to apply

Entry requirements differ slightly depending on one’s academic background, but some standards cut across all categories.

University-trained applicants must hold a recognised education-related degree from an accredited institution and must have completed both coursework and teaching practice.

Those from Colleges of Education are required to present a Bachelor of Education from an accredited college, alongside evidence of completed academic work and teaching practice.

Diploma holders must have a Diploma in Basic Education or a related qualification from an approved institution, with proof that teaching practice has been successfully completed.

National Service and licensing requirements

Regardless of category, every applicant must have fulfilled national service obligations and possess a valid certificate to that effect. In addition, candidates must have passed the teacher licensure exam administered by the National Teaching Council and hold a valid licence.

Documents to prepare

Applicants are expected to have key documents ready before starting the process. These include academic certificates, licensure certificate, National Service certificate, Ghana Card, SSNIT number, birth certificate, and a passport-size photograph.

How to apply

The process begins on the recruitment portal, where applicants select the appropriate category and proceed by clicking “Apply Now.”

They are then required to complete an online form capturing personal details, academic history, licensure information, and National Service records.

Supporting documents must be uploaded before submission. Once all entries are confirmed as accurate, applicants submit the form and print a confirmation slip for their records.

What follows after submission

All entries are screened by the Ghana Education Service to verify compliance with requirements. Candidates who meet the criteria will be shortlisted and notified through the portal.

Successful applicants will receive appointment letters and be assigned to schools based on subject specialisation, preferred regions or districts, and staffing needs. The service has made it clear that postings will prioritise underserved areas, and applicants should be prepared to work wherever they are assigned.

New recruits must report to their designated district offices with original documents for verification before officially taking up their roles.

Key cautions for applicants

The recruitment process, according to the service, is strictly merit-driven. Applicants are warned against dealing with intermediaries or individuals claiming to influence outcomes for a fee. Only official communication channels should be trusted.

Any falsified information or forged documents will result in immediate disqualification. Candidates should also be mindful that final postings may differ from their initial preferences, depending on demand.

A shift to a digital system

By centralising applications online, the Ghana Education Service is streamlining teacher recruitment and cutting out the need for in-person submissions at district offices. For many trained teachers awaiting placement, the platform offers a more transparent and accessible route into the public education system.
