Fire Destroys Sunyani District Magistrate Courts ‘A’ and ‘B’

Fire guts Sunyani District Magistrate Courts ‘A’ and ‘B’, destroying files, computers and critical court materials.

A predawn fire has gutted the District Magistrate Courts ‘A’ and ‘B’ in Sunyani, wiping out case files, equipment and other essential materials and disrupting court operations across the Bono Region.

The blaze broke out in the early hours of Sunday and tore through the court complex, leaving the buildings and their contents completely destroyed.

Speaking to JoyNews, the Bono Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, ADO I Kwame Adomako Antwi, detailed the scale of the damage.

“Wood, chairs, documents, computers, air conditioners—everything was razed down by the inferno,” he stated.

The fire is believed to have started around 3:00 a.m., but the initial alert came through a “running caller,” meaning the report had to be delivered in person at a fire station, slowing the response.

A team from the Sunyani Fire Station was first to arrive, with additional support coming from two fire tenders dispatched from the Abesim Fire Station.

Even with reinforcements, the situation quickly escalated. ADO I Antwi explained that operational setbacks made it harder to contain the flames.

One of the responding fire tenders ran out of water, while another developed a fault on its way to the scene. Attempts to find alternative water sources across the municipality also failed.

“After combing the entire Sunyani metropolis, we could not get water. Even the fire hydrants were dry,” he revealed.

With no reliable water supply, firefighters struggled to suppress the blaze in time, allowing it to consume everything within the court premises.

After several hours of work, the fire was eventually brought under control, but not before the courts and their contents were completely lost.
