Abu Trica Claims Investigators Inflated Case From $1m to $8m

Abu Trica

Ghanaian socialite Frederick Kumi, otherwise known as Abu Trica, has pushed back against reports connecting him to an alleged $8 million fraud case, insisting the figure circulating in the media does not reflect the actual amount involved.

In an interview with Captain Smart on Onua TV, he maintained that investigators themselves had referenced a far smaller sum, dismissing suggestions that the case involves millions of dollars.

His remarks come as he remains on bail granted by the High Court, with the matter still ongoing before the Gbese District Court.

“There is no such thing as an $8 million claim in the case against me. They themselves admitted they gave me $13,000,” he said.

Providing his account of how the controversy escalated, Abu Trica traced the disputed figure to what he described as a questionable interrogation process following his arrest.

He said he was first held at the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) cells at night before being moved for questioning in a conference room.

“The reason behind how the $8 million came about is that they came to arrest me and pick me up at night to NACOC cells. While in the cells, they came and told me that some men needed to interrogate me. It was a dark conference room, and I saw five men, three of whom were white and two were black,” he stated.

According to him, the session that followed involved documents being placed before him, which he interpreted as part of a coordinated setup.

“They placed some documents in front of me, not knowing it was a setup orchestrated by themselves,” the socialite recalled.

He further alleged that pressure was applied for him to disclose the owner of a specific account under investigation, a demand he says he refused to comply with.

“The informant told me to provide an account for them because they knew it did not belong to me. They wanted me to mention the name of the account owner, which I refused to do. They became furious and threatened to charge me with taking $8 million instead of the initial $1 million claim against me,” he revealed.

Abu Trica expressed disbelief at the experience, questioning the conduct he says he was subjected to during the process.

“I thought it was a joke. How can a foreigner treat me like that in my own country and threaten me?” he averred.

He remains on bail as proceedings continue at the Gbese District Court.
