Friday night’s World Cup fundraising drive for Ghana’s national team picked up serious pace when Stonebwoy stepped forward with a six-figure commitment.
The award-winning musician pledged $81,000 in cash and added $20,000 in music-related services, pushing his total support to $101,000 in a show of backing for the Black Stars.
Organisers say the funds will go directly into flying Ghanaian fans to the 2026 tournament, a move aimed at ensuring strong supporter presence across host cities in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Stonebwoy made the announcement himself while on stage at the event, placing his name among a widening pool of donors rallying behind the team ahead of the global showpiece.
His contribution builds on major corporate backing already secured, including a $5 million headline sponsorship from Engineers & Planners, owned by Ibrahim Mahama. Another boost has come from Gold Fields, which has pledged $2 million, with a further $1 million earmarked for next year.
The broader campaign is designed to reduce the financial strain on the Ghana Football Association as it fine-tunes preparations for the tournament. Ghana have been drawn into Group L, where they will face England, Croatia and Panama.
Their campaign is scheduled to begin against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, followed by a clash with England in Boston on June 23, before wrapping up the group stage against Croatia in Philadelphia on June 27.
Stonebwoy’s gesture adds to a growing wave of support from both private individuals and major firms, all pushing to ensure the Black Stars head into the tournament fully backed on and off the pitch.
