Excitement around Ghana’s push toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup is gathering pace, and the latest show of support has come from dancehall artiste Shatta Wale, who stepped forward with a $100,000 donation to boost the Black Stars’ campaign.
The announcement was made during Friday night’s high-profile fundraising dinner at the Kempinski Hotel, where a mix of corporate giants and private individuals publicly declared their financial backing for the national team’s preparations.
Shatta Wale’s gesture adds to a growing list of headline contributions on the night. Fellow musician Stonebwoy had earlier set the tone with a $101,000 pledge, made up of $81,000 in cash and an additional $20,000 in music-related support. The funds are expected to help transport Ghanaian fans to the tournament, giving the Black Stars a strong presence across host cities in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Corporate Ghana also made a powerful statement. Engineers & Planners, the mining company owned by Ibrahim Mahama, led the way with a massive $5 million commitment. Gold Fields followed with a $2 million pledge, alongside a further $1 million earmarked for next year.
President John Dramani Mahama, who officially launched the initiative, revealed that the government will assist television stations willing to secure broadcast rights for the tournament, a move aimed at making the competition widely accessible to viewers back home.
On the pitch, Ghana face a challenging task. Drawn in Group L, the Black Stars will come up against England, Croatia, and Panama, with their opening match scheduled for June 17 in Toronto against Panama.
