“I Lost Almost Everything” – Kuami Eugene Shares Painful Life Struggles

Ghanaian singer Kuami Eugene has opened up about a painful period in his life that saw him lose both his father and grandmother, survive a serious accident, and battle harsh social media rumours while recovering in hospital.

In a recent conversation with Anita Akuffo on TV3, the “Wish Me Well” composer reflected on a difficult two-year stretch marked by personal loss, family struggles, and a life-threatening accident.

According to Kuami Eugene, the heartbreak started with the death of his grandmother, someone he says meant a great deal to him. Before he could fully recover from that loss, his father also passed away the following year, leaving him devastated.

“There was a period in my life when I lost almost everything and a lot of important people around me. I lost my grandma, whom I was very, very close to, and then the following year I lost my dad, too. On top of that, there were family issues, and then I had the accident,” he recounted.

The award-winning musician explained that the situation became even more difficult after the accident left him hospitalized for four months. Amid the emotional pain and health challenges, he still had to shoulder funeral expenses, surgeries, and other responsibilities.

“I thank God I had enough money when all these things happened because I had to travel home, bury my grandma, bury my dad, and also pay for surgeries and hospital bills. If I didn’t have money at the time, things would have been very bad,” he said.

Kuami Eugene added that the lengthy hospital stay also affected his livelihood since live performances and private appearances are his main source of income.

“The same person taking care of all these responsibilities had to stay in the hospital for four months. And four months without shows means no income because that’s where I make my money,” he added.

Beyond the physical and emotional struggle, the singer revealed he also had to deal with disturbing reactions online while trying to recover. He said some social media users spread rumours claiming he had died.

“I had a lot of hate from social media instead of people supporting me. There were comments like, ‘I bet Kuami Eugene is dead now. What they are showing is a video of his passing; that is his corpse. Why do you think he’s not out there anymore? He’s dead, his family just doesn’t want to tell us about it.’ That is the darkest thing that has happened to me since I became Kuami Eugene,” Kuami Eugene recalled.
