‘I Was Handcuffed for 12 Hours’ – Abu Trica Shares Arrest Ordeal

Abu Trica

Ghanaian businessman and social media personality Abu Trica has opened up about the circumstances surrounding his arrest, alleging that he was kept in handcuffs for more than 12 hours while law enforcement officers conducted an extensive search of his Accra residence.

Speaking to Captain Smart on Onua TV, the businessman, whose real name is Frederick Kumi, recounted what he described as a dramatic operation carried out at one of his apartments in the Airport Residential Area on December 11, 2025.

According to Abu Trica, the incident occurred early that morning while he was spending time with friends at the property. He said officers from the Cybercrime Unit of the Ghana Police Service arrived at the residence alongside personnel from the Narcotics Control Commission, armed with a search warrant.

“It happened on the morning of December 11, 2025. My boys and I were in one of my apartments at Airport Residential. We heard a knock at the gate and when we opened it, it was personnel from the Cybercrime Unit of the Ghana Police Service and some personnel from Narcotics,” he recounted.

He said the officers informed him that they intended to search the apartment and place him under arrest over allegations related to cyber fraud.

Abu Trica claimed he sought clarification about the reasons behind the operation, after which one of the officers allegedly presented a TikTok video showing a person displaying large sums of cash.

“When I enquired why I was being searched, one of them showed me a TikTok video depicting me flaunting stacks of cash and asked where the money was,” he said.

The social media personality maintained that the account linked to the video was not his and denied ever uploading such content.

“I told them I never posted such a video. I am not on TikTok and that account in particular was fake. They still didn’t believe me,” he stated.

He further alleged that both he and his associates were restrained throughout the search, which he said lasted from morning until night.

“They handcuffed me and made me sit for over 12 hours while they searched the entire apartment. The video people saw of me and my friends seated on the couch, handcuffed, we were like that from 9 a.m. in the morning to 9 p.m.,” he claimed.

Abu Trica also accused the officers of denying him access to legal counsel during the operation.

“Even when I asked to call my lawyer, they did not allow me and rather took offence,” he said.

The interview marks Abu Trica’s latest public response to the fraud and extradition proceedings that have drawn significant attention both within Ghana and internationally.

He has repeatedly denied any involvement in wrongdoing and continues to dispute allegations connecting him to an alleged international romance fraud and money laundering network.
