NPP Sacks Two Suhum Officers For Anti-Party Conducts
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Suhum Constituency of the Eastern Region has suspended two officers—Samuel Baah, the Constituency Communications Officer, and Alhaji Bala Abubakar, Deputy Nassara Coordinator—for violating the party’s constitution.
According to a statement by the Constituency Secretary, Stephen Odame, the Constituency Executive Committee (CEC) took this action at an emergency meeting on August 11, 2024. This decision followed a review of the officers’ behavior after the Constituency Delegates’ Conference, where Frank Asiedu Bekoe was elected as the party’s parliamentary candidate for the 2024 general elections.
The CEC found that the actions of the two officers breached Article 3(9)(1) and Article 3(5)(a)(2) and (4) of the NPP Constitution, which prohibits members from publicly campaigning for or endorsing an independent candidate when the party has already nominated one.
Specifically, the CEC noted that Mr. Baah was dissatisfied with the outcome of the party’s parliamentary election and began promoting the idea of the incumbent MP, Kwodjo Asante, running as an independent candidate. Additionally, both officers organized processions and submitted a petition urging the MP to challenge the party’s candidate.
The CEC deemed these actions as divisive, anti-party, and serious misconduct, leading to their suspension from their respective positions.
This decision was made to enforce discipline within the party and to deter others from engaging in similar anti-party activities. The CEC urged all party members in Suhum to respect this decision and focus on securing a decisive victory in the upcoming 2024 elections.
