Mikki Osei Berko opens up about low-paying ambassadorial deals in Ghana

Ghanaian actor Mikki Osei Berko has shed light on the harsh reality of ambassadorial deals in the country, revealing that they are far less lucrative than many believe.

Speaking in a recent interview, the actor—widely known as Dada Boat—dismissed the common perception that such deals come with hefty paychecks.

“I can speak for myself, and I think it’s not as lucrative as many expect. If I were doing what I do here in another part of the world, I’d probably be flying in a private jet. But in Ghana, if you’re not careful, you could end up using public transport,” he told GhanaWeb’s Elsie Lamar.

Mikki attributed the issue to a lack of appreciation for ambassadorial roles, noting that brands in Ghana often undervalue the work of brand ambassadors.

“I believe it will improve over time. Some brands I’ve worked with offer better compensation than others, but you take what you can—it’s survival. One day, things will get better.”

He also pointed out that many people fail to recognize the full-time commitment required for such roles.

“Some assume what we do is a part-time gig. But for me, it’s a full-time commitment. At times, companies approach you for radio or TV commercials, and when you hear their offer, it’s shocking.”

The actor further recounted instances where brands attempted to compensate him with food and drinks instead of actual payment for serving as an MC at their events.

“Sometimes, just to survive, you take on jobs—not for financial gain but simply to get by. It’s unfortunate that people don’t always value what we do as they should,” he lamented.
