Accra Tourist Centre Fire: GTA Appeals for Calm Amid Ongoing Investigation

GTA on Accra Tourist Information Centre fire

Following a late-night blaze that swept through the Accra Tourist Information Centre (ATIC), the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) is urging the public to stay calm and await the findings of an ongoing investigation.

The fire, which erupted at approximately 12:30 AM, ravaged several critical offices housed within the facility, among them, the International Affairs Department, GTA’s Call Center, the Tour Operators Association of Ghana, and the National Film Authority (NFA). While the damage to infrastructure was extensive, no casualties were recorded.

Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service responded swiftly and managed to bring the situation under control before the flames could spread to surrounding areas.

Eyewitnesses suspect the blaze may have originated from the kitchen section of Rockz Waakye, a well-known food joint located on the premises. However, officials have yet to determine the actual cause.

In a press statement issued by Bright Asempa Tsadidey, Director of Corporate Affairs at the GTA, the agency reiterated its dedication to transparency, assuring the public that updates would be provided as more facts come to light. The statement further noted that the GTA is working closely with key institutions to evaluate the extent of the destruction and map out a recovery plan.
