Ghana Confirms 27 New Mpox Cases, Total Infections Rise to 494

Ghana Health Service on Mpox

Ghana’s health authorities are sounding the alarm once more as confirmed Mpox infections continue to climb.

In its latest release on Monday, September 1, 2025, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) disclosed that 27 new cases have been detected nationwide, pushing the country’s cumulative tally to 494 infections. Officials confirmed that one patient is currently under treatment, while others are being monitored.

This marks a steady rise from recent updates, on August 28, 21 fresh cases were reported, raising the total to 467, and just days earlier, on August 25, another 22 cases brought the figure to 446.

Health experts with the GHS cautioned that “Mpox is mainly transmitted through close contact with an infected person,” stressing the importance of early detection and swift reporting. Common signs include fever, headache, muscle aches, swollen lymph nodes, and distinct skin rashes that often spread across the body.

Officials urged citizens to maintain strict personal hygiene, avoid unnecessary physical contact, and seek immediate medical care if they notice suspicious symptoms. Vigilance, the Service emphasized, remains the strongest defense against further community spread as they continue nationwide surveillance and response efforts.
