30 Police Officers Earn Promotion After AK-47 Ammo Interception at Asankare

Thirty officers are promoted after operations at Asankare and Manso Nkwanta blocked arms smuggling and robberies.

Thirty police officers have earned promotions following two major security breakthroughs that disrupted the movement of illegal firearms and dismantled a robbery network in the Ashanti Region during the Christmas period.

The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, approved the promotions on Monday, January 5, 2025, in recognition of what the Police Administration described as exceptional service, vigilance, and discipline in the line of duty.

Ten of the promoted officers were directly involved in an operation at the Asankare Police Barrier, where officers intercepted a consignment of 2,600 rounds of AK-47 ammunition being transported from Accra to northern Ghana. A search of the vehicle revealed the ammunition concealed in two containers, along with a bag hidden beneath the driver’s seat containing two bulletproof plates, a crushed black helmet, and a pair of long boots.

Those recognised for the Asankare interception are Chief Inspector Tibim Acheampong Solomon, Inspector Sarfo Adu Daniel, No. 58311 Lance Corporal Saeed Frimpong, No. 621467 Constable Sremsei Simon, No. 15413 Constable Kissi Dorcas Serwaah, No. 65450 Constable Arthur Emmanuel Nkrumah, No. 65457 Constable Dennis Danquah, No. 65503 Constable Philip Lawer Nyarko, No. 66427 Constable Owusu Kenneth, and No. 66841 Constable Christian Buaben Kwadzo Addo, Graphic reported.

An additional 20 officers from the Intelligence units of the Ashanti and Ashanti South Regional Police Commands were also promoted for their role in intelligence-led operations that dismantled an armed robbery syndicate operating around Manso Nkwanta, Antoakrom, and nearby communities. Those operations led to the recovery of firearms and ammunition, disrupted criminal activity, and foiled planned attacks on commuters.

Members of the Police Management Board joined the IGP in commending the officers, noting that their swift and professional actions prevented dangerous weapons from reaching criminal networks.

The IGP urged all personnel of the Ghana Police Service to maintain high standards of professionalism, assuring officers that dedication and hard work would continue to be recognised and rewarded by the Police Administration.
