The music industry has long thrived on rivalries, with artists frequently trading shots through diss tracks in what is widely known as “beef.” Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has now weighed in on the phenomenon, arguing that such tensions are an inevitable and even useful part of the creative space.
In a discussion with Adesope in an interview aired on June 4, 2026, Sarkodie reflected on his current relationship with Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale. Although the two appear to be on good terms at present, he suggested that another clash between them in the future cannot be completely ruled out.
According to him, the calm between them is welcome but not permanent, stressing that misunderstandings are a normal part of human interaction.
“Personally, to me I think we have a beautiful time now and let’s hold on to it. Beef, to me I will not say scratch it. Beef is very necessary. And I told Shatta Wale yesterday. We were talking and I told him that ‘listen, we are cool now but I am pretty sure that the next two or three months something will happen’. So it’s not going to stop,” he said.
He further noted: “When it happens, if I have to tell you something I tell you something. If you have to tell me something you tell me something.”
Sarkodie and Shatta Wale have built one of the most talked-about rivalries in Ghana’s music history. While their clashes have often dominated headlines, their relationship has also included periods of collaboration and mutual respect.
Tensions between them reportedly escalated years ago following a string of public comments and social media posts by Shatta Wale, who frequently called out industry figures, including Sarkodie.
That friction eventually inspired Sarkodie’s 2018 diss record ‘Advice’, which was widely interpreted as a direct response to Shatta Wale’s remarks.
Recounting the track’s origin during his chat with Adesope, Sarkodie explained that Shatta Wale’s behaviour at the time disrupted his focus and pushed him to channel his response through music.
In more recent years, however, the two have appeared to move past their differences, showing public support for each other and maintaining a noticeably more cordial relationship.
