He Was So Deep – Dr Bawumia Backs State Funeral for Daddy Lumba

Daddy Lumba and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia

Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has called for a state funeral to be held in honour of the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba, citing the musician’s profound influence on Ghanaian culture and his unparalleled contribution to the music industry.

During a solemn visit to the home of the late icon, Dr Bawumia shared heartfelt reflections on Lumba’s legacy. He praised the celebrated singer’s body of work and its enduring impact on generations of Ghanaians.

“Lumba was such a great musician, and his impact has been so great. He was so deep,” he said, recalling some of the legendary artiste’s most memorable songs.

Dr Bawumia went on to advocate for an official state-sanctioned ceremony in Lumba’s honour, saying it would be a fitting tribute to the cultural treasure he represented.

“This is a national funeral, and I want to plead for a state burial and a state funeral for him,” he urged.

However, he emphasized that regardless of any formal designation, the magnitude of public mourning and national reverence already reflects the status Lumba holds in the hearts of many.

“But the truth is that whether he is granted state funeral or not, it is going to be a state funeral. Ghanaians are according to him his deserved national recognition.”

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia was accompanied by several leading figures from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), including Members of Parliament, as well as regional and constituency executives, all of whom came to offer their condolences and pay respects to the music legend.

Daddy Lumba’s demise has ignited a nationwide wave of tributes, with many echoing Dr. Bawumia’s call for the state to honour one of Ghana’s most cherished musical icons.
