He Said It All Already – KOD Says New Tribute Songs For Daddy Lumba Are Unnecessary

Kofi Okyere Darko, popularly known as KOD and serving as the Presidential Adviser on Diaspora Affairs, has urged Ghanaian musicians to refrain from recording tribute songs for the late Highlife legend, Daddy Lumba.

In a reflective Facebook post, KOD argued that such tributes, though well-intentioned, are unnecessary and ultimately inadequate when compared to the legacy Lumba crafted himself.

“Creating a tribute song for Daddy Lumba won’t be easy and should not be encouraged… he already wrote his own while he was still with us. His music said it all long before we ever had to say goodbye,” KOD wrote.

His comments follow rising suggestions from fans and figures within the industry that the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) should lead an initiative to produce commemorative songs, an increasingly familiar gesture in the wake of a musical icon’s death.

However, KOD, who shared both personal and professional ties with the late Charles Kwadwo Fosu, believes no modern composition could capture Lumba’s depth or soul. According to him, the late star’s expansive discography already stands as a timeless tribute.
