Ghana has set aside GH₵150 million for the Black Stars as part of the country’s build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking one of the largest single investments in the senior national team ahead of a global tournament.
The announcement was delivered in Parliament on Thursday, November 13, 2025, when Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson presented the 2026 Budget Statement. He told lawmakers that the funding aligns with the government’s broader plan to strengthen national teams competing on the international stage and to boost sports development nationwide.
“The government’s sustained investment in sports yielded impressive results, with the Black Stars qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” Dr. Forson said. He followed with the confirmation that “An amount of GH¢150 million has been allocated for the Black Stars to participate in the World Cup.”
Dr. Forson also used the budget presentation to restate the government’s plans to expand Ghana’s sporting infrastructure. He highlighted ongoing efforts to improve facilities and support young athletes, including proposals for new stadia in selected regions.
The Black Stars will learn their group-stage opponents at the official World Cup draw scheduled for December 5 in Washington, DC.
