“Let Us Know What’s the Real Reason Dumsor is Happening” – Efia Odo

Efia Odo

Ghanaian socialite Efia Odo has weighed in on the ongoing power supply interruptions, widely referred to as “Dumsor,” which continue to spark frustration across the country.

During a discussion on United Showbiz on UTV, she reflected on how public figures are frequently boxed into political labels whenever they comment on national issues. According to her, this perception has made her cautious about speaking openly, as it often attracts unnecessary backlash.

She explained that, over time, she has preferred silence as a way of avoiding political misinterpretation, even when she has strong views. Still, she believes the current electricity situation has reached a point where it can no longer be ignored and requires urgent attention from those in charge.

“A time came when I wanted to refrain from engaging in political conversations because when you say something, they tag you either NDC or NPP, and someone like me is easily tagged as political, so I don’t say anything. I just keep quiet and endure everything,” she stated.

Efia Odo further argued that if power outages are unavoidable, the public should be informed ahead of time so they can plan accordingly. In her view, clear communication from authorities would ease the stress and uncertainty many citizens currently face.

She pointed to practices in other countries, citing the United States as an example, where residents are typically notified in advance about disruptions or major service interruptions. She suggested that Ghana could adopt a similar system to improve transparency and public preparedness.

“Let us know what’s the real reason dumsor is happening because when we calculate the power, it doesn’t make sense. In America, when there’s an incident, you’re notified so you will know what to do; so the same thing should be happening here in Ghana. When the light is about to go off, we should be notified,” she stressed.

She also expressed belief that President John Dramani Mahama would not want the power crisis to define his leadership record negatively. Efia Odo urged that swift and honest action is needed from authorities to prevent the situation from escalating further.

“I don’t think any politician would deliberately want to give themselves a bad name. Of everything President Mahama has done, I don’t think he intentionally wants dumsor to be a thing that brings him down. And if he doesn’t want it to bring him down, then they need to be honest,” Efia Odo further stated.
