Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo Defends Efia Odo, Calls Out Hypocrisy in Ghanaian Music Criticism

Entertainment pundit Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo is urging Ghanaians to shift their attitude towards local creatives, encouraging more support and less criticism when it comes to artistic expression.

He made these remarks on United Television’s United Showbiz, where he weighed in on the public discourse surrounding Sarkodie’s latest music video featuring socialite and actress Efia Odo. In his view, many people are too quick to judge homegrown talent without properly considering the creative intent behind their work.

Arnold pointed out what he sees as a double standard, noting that international stars are often embraced without hesitation, while local figures face intense scrutiny for similar artistic choices.

“Ghanaians, we are very funny. When we see the likes of Rihanna and Beyoncé, we clamour to watch, but when our very own people do it, we criticise. We need to support our own,” he said.

He went on to defend Efia Odo’s role in the video, explaining that her appearance should be understood strictly within the context of performance. According to him, music videos function like short films, where performers are assigned characters that do not reflect their real personalities.

“It’s an act, everyone who knows movies knows. A music video is like a mini movie, and that is what Efia Odo did. It doesn’t mean that is who she is. Some people also know that, but because it is Efia, they just want to criticise,” he insisted.

Arnold also highlighted that Efia Odo’s involvement played a key role in driving attention and conversation around the project. He argued that her presence, combined with Sarkodie’s artistry, helped amplify the video’s reach online and spark widespread engagement.

In his assessment, the role required a certain level of confidence and delivery, something he believes few could have executed as effectively as she did.
