Fresh comments from RuffTown Records boss Bullet have reignited conversations around the royalties of late singer Ebony Reigns, as he detailed the financial arrangements he claims existed between the label and the musician’s family.
During an interview on Okay FM with Nana Romeo, Bullet disclosed that he recently handed Ebony’s father $100,000, which he said represented half of the late artiste’s royalties.
According to Bullet, Ebony’s original contract entitled her to only 20% of the royalties, but he alleged that pressure from her father forced him to increase the share to 50%.
The music executive further claimed that Ebony’s father repeatedly requested money from him over the years, including funds that had been earmarked for publicity and promotion ahead of the singer’s debut concert.
Even with the disagreements, Bullet said he stayed quiet publicly and continued to honour what he described as his responsibilities.
“I gave Ebony’s father $100,000 recently, which is 50% of Ebony’s royalties. Ebony only had 20% in those shares, but her father bullied me into making it 50%.
“After the first-ever Ebony party, he insisted I give him his daughter’s money. The money was meant to promote and campaign for Ebony’s work, but I went with him to the bank and withdrew it for him. He doesn’t talk about it anywhere,” Bullet stated during the interview.
Bullet also accused Ebony’s father of constantly attacking him in public while overlooking the financial support and assistance he says he has provided since the musician’s passing.
