Ghanaian actress and media personality Joselyn Dumas has urged investors to channel more resources into the country’s creative industry. She argued that the sector cannot reach its full potential without stronger financial backing.
Speaking at the Creative Economy Summit held in Accra on July 22, 2026, the award-winning actress said Ghana is home to exceptional creative talent, but many promising ideas struggle to move beyond the development stage because of inadequate investment and weak distribution networks.
According to Dumas, one of the biggest obstacles facing creatives is the difficulty in securing funding for quality projects.
“It’s not just about it being a good project; you need investors. So one of the things that we are lacking, one of the biggest gaps here is investors. So if there are any investors here, I’m calling on you. We are ready; we have products,” Dumas stated.
She said Ghana already has an abundance of gifted creatives and only needs a stronger support system to help them flourish.
“There are so many talented individuals created here in Ghana. We just need to create an ecosystem that makes it very easy for us to thrive as creators.”
Beyond funding, Dumas pointed to distribution as another major setback, explaining that many high quality Ghanaian productions never reach audiences because there are limited platforms available outside television and local cinemas.
She noted that numerous completed projects remain stored away instead of being showcased to wider audiences, preventing creators from unlocking their commercial potential.
Reflecting on her experience working in countries such as Nigeria and South Africa, Dumas admitted that Ghana’s smaller market presents challenges. However, she maintained that collaboration rather than competition offers the best path forward for the country’s creative economy.
“I keep hearing the numbers thing. We don’t have the numbers in Ghana; Nigeria has the numbers, but we are happy to partner,” the actress stressed.
